Your scissors' performance may be affected if they are used by other people for prolonged periods of time.

Can my scissors only be sharpened once?

Usually, a good quality scissor can be sharpened between five and eight times. This depends on how they have been treated and the extent of any damage that has occurred during their normal use. It also depends on the quality of any previous sharpening work done on the scissors

I have dropped my scissors and now they don't cut properly. Are they ruined?

They would probably be back to normal after a service and sharpen. It is very rare that a scissor is completely destroyed due to dropping them.

Can thinners be sharpened too?

Somebody has used my scissors for cutting cardboard; are they ruined? Can they be sharpened?

Yes they can be sharpened. Using your scissors to cut things other than hair will only make the cutting edge dull faster than it should. Clean-Cut recommends only to cut hair with salon grade shears.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition where the median nerve in the wrist is compressed leading to numbness, tingling and weakness in the fingers and pain in the general wrist area. The risk of developing the condition is increased in hairdressers when scissors are not cutting efficiently

Why is it important to use scissors with the correct fitting thumb and finger holes?

When the thumb and finger holes are too large, hairdressers tend to put added strain on their wrist areas which, over time, increases the risk of developing Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.

We recommend inserting finger rings to 'fill' the holes a little if they are too big. Finger rings come in many colours and designs and can give your scissors a great new look.
